These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of The First Light, an SMS-based spiritual guidance service (“Service”) operated by The First Light, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The First Light is an SMS-based service that delivers AI-generated spiritual content and guidance in the voice of Jesus Christ. The Service is intended for personal spiritual reflection and encouragement. It is not a licensed counseling or therapy service, a crisis intervention service, a medical or mental health service, or a substitute for professional pastoral care.
Content generated by the Service is produced by an artificial intelligence system and is not authored by a human pastor, counselor, or theologian. While we work to ensure responses are grounded in scripture and consistent with Christian teaching, we make no guarantee of theological accuracy or completeness.
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent.
By texting the Service, you expressly consent to receive automated SMS messages from The First Light, including transactional messages, spiritual content, and promotional messages related to the Service. Message and data rates may apply.
You may opt out at any time by replying STOP. After opting out, you will receive a single confirmation message and no further messages unless you re-engage. For help, reply HELP.
The Service offers 5 free messages and paid credit packs purchased as one-time transactions through Stripe. Credit packs are not subscriptions — there is no recurring charge. Credits never expire and are tied to your phone number.
Available credit packs: Starter (50 messages, $7.99), Seeker (150 messages, $14.99), Disciple (400 messages, $34.99), and All In (1,000 messages, $59.99). Any purchase permanently unlocks daily broadcasts (Verse of the Day, Song of the Day, Devotional) for your account.
A Church / Group plan ($149/mo, 10 seats, 250 messages each) is available for small groups and pastors and is billed on a recurring monthly basis. By purchasing a Church / Group plan, you authorize The First Light, LLC to charge your payment method each month until you cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
All purchases are processed by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers or payment details on our servers. Credit pack purchases are non-refundable except where required by law. We reserve the right to change pricing at any time with advance notice via SMS.
You agree not to use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm others; attempt to manipulate or jailbreak the AI system; impersonate any person or entity; transmit spam, automated messages, or bulk communications; violate any applicable law or regulation; or use the Service for any commercial purpose without our written consent.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms.
The First Light is not a crisis service, a suicide prevention service, a mental health intervention service, or an emergency response service of any kind. It is not monitored by humans in real time.

When the AI system detects language that may indicate suicidal ideation, self-harm, or imminent danger, it is designed to immediately surface crisis resources including 988 and the Crisis Text Line. The Service cannot detect all crisis situations, does not alert The First Light, LLC or emergency services, and is not monitored by humans in real time. The First Light name, branding, and Service design are owned by The First Light, LLC. Scripture passages used in the Service are from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), which is in the public domain. You retain ownership of the content you send to the Service. By sending messages, you grant The First Light, LLC a limited license to process and store your messages solely to provide the Service.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. BORNTALL LLC MAKES NO WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BORNTALL LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND ASSIGNS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL BORNTALL LLC'S AGGREGATE LIABILITY EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID IN THE PRECEDING 12 MONTHS OR $100.
ANY DISPUTE ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL BE RESOLVED EXCLUSIVELY BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION ADMINISTERED BY THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION (AAA). YOU AND BORNTALL LLC EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL AND THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which The First Light, LLC is registered, without regard to conflict of law principles.
We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. For material changes, we will provide advance notice via SMS.
